What is use number 3?

Since I moved to first grade I've had to adjust to a bathroom in my classroom. It's convenient, but takes up a lot of space. (So far I've managed to avoid any horrific experiences with it. I'm sure they'll start tomorrow now that I've said this.) The bathroom is about 2 1/2 feet by 5 feet. This year it has simply been a bathroom. I want it to be more.

Any advice on how I can use that space? Hang things on the wall? If so, what sort of things? Other thoughts? I'm looking for ideas that are totally off the wall!

I've seen colored tube art that allows water to flow through when you turn on the faucet. I thought that was pretty awesome.

My reaction is "ask the kids"--get them involved in what you will do for next year's class....

I'm going to keep checking back with this post, because I've been thinking the very same thing about our small bathroom.

I really want to paint a big mural on the wall -- the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom tree or other literary characters.

Many years ago, when I was lucky enough to have a bathroom in my classroom, I turned it into an art gallery. The prints were laminated prints from my art teacher magazines. I wanted kids to just see them and feel a little familiar with them.

Personally, when I am having a private moment in the bathroom, I don't like having deep things to read and think about. Deep work related quotes seem an invasion of my private thoughts.

That being said, as an introvert, almost everything is an invasion of my private thoughts. ; )

I like the mural and art gallery ideas. Would you please post a picture when it's finished?

I put a word wall in my bathroom this year! They all had to see it every day. :)

An artsy word wall, or seasonal posters/art might be good (but nothing too terribly distracting, or that ONE CHILD who could sit and look at books for hours will be sitting in there looking at the wall for waaaaaay too long!)- just make sure that you don't add shelving, shadow boxes/deep frames etc. without checking with custodians, fire marshals, and risk management FIRST.
